 About Rishikesh

         Rishikesh located in the laps of lower Himalayas about 24 Kms from Haridwar represents the Gateway to the Himalayas and is often claimed as the `Yoga Capital of the World". Today Rishikesh is fast emerging as a centre for curing ailments through yoga and meditation. Meditation at this place leads to attainment of salvation and the whole place is considered to be sacred.

Attractions In & Around
Auli :- It is India’s promising ski-spot and is considered the best skiing slope in Asia. Both sides of the slope are covered with oak and coniferous trees that break the speed of the wind and this makes it ideal for skiing.

Bharata Temple :- Though the temple is dedicated to Lord Mahavishnu, it holds a number of images normally associated with the worship of Lord Shiva and is the oldest temple in. The image installed here has a distinctly Himalayan cast of features. Adi Sankaracharya renovated the temple.

Chilla Park :- It is about 20 kms from Rishikesh covered with forests providing a pleasant environment. Government has declared Chilla a sanctuary. A canal from Ganga feeds the reservoir to spot many animals.

Devprayag :- Situated on the Rishikesh -Badrinath road, this mountainous spot is the site of the holy meeting of the rivers Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. When they flow out of here, they are together called the Ganga. An old temple of Ram here is well known.

Gita Bhavan :- Situated just across the Lakshman Jhula, is this newly constructed building famous for attractive paintings and statues from the Hindu mythology.

Kunjapuri :- This holy shrine is dedicated to the Goddess Shakti, the consort of Lord Shiva the Destroyer and is located at 1645 meter above Sea level. Folklore has it that this is the spot where the Chest or Kunja of Shaktips body was found after the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu, had disseminated it.

Lakshman Jhula :- It is a suspension bridge across the Ganga along the old route to the holy shrines of Badrinath and Kedarnath, about 3 kms. from Rishikesh This is where Lord Ramaps brother Lakshman is said to have crossed the river on a jute rope.

Narendra nagar :- 15 kms on the Rishikesh Chamba road is located the historical town of Narendra nagar, built by the King Narendra Singh. This town is of archaeological importance and The Royal palace and the huge magnificent Nandi bull cannot escape the tourists’ attention.

Nilkhant Mahadeo :- Neelkanth Mahadev, a place where Lord Shiva is believed to have drunk the venom that came out during the churning of the Ocean. It is 12 kms. away from Rishikesh surrounded by peaceful forests.

Swarga Ashram :- One can find numerous temples here.This place has the eating joints and shops where one can do shopping. The beautiful statues in the area mesmerise the visitors. This place is full of Ashrams and temples. The spiritual atmosphere here calms many souls. Plenty of stores and restaurants are found around here.
One of the oldest ashrams in in Rishikesh ,Its founder Swami Vishudhanand was also Known as the Kali Kamli Wala(one with The Black Blanket). Today Kali Kamli Walakshetra is a mammoth organisation embrcing many activities.

Triveni Ghat :- Triveni Ghat is the main bathing ghat, where the three rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati flow together. The dusk Aarti on the ghat is most impressive and is a real sight to behold. Devotees release flower-filled leaf boats carrying tiny oil lamps and let them float out on the river, which is a ceremony of worship, remembrance and hope.

Getting in, Around & Away
AIR : The nearest airport is Dehradun (Jolly Grant), 25 kms. Vayudoot services operate from Delhi to Dehradun (Jolly Grant).
RAIL : Rishikesh is connected by rail via Haridwar, which is on the main route. Haridwar is connected directely with Mumbai, Lucknow, Howrah, Kalka, Sri Ganganagar, Allahabad and Delhi.
